One way around it is to drill though the back box and tap that at 3.5mm, you’ll need some long screws though. Another way is a dob of Araldite at the back of the lug and fix a 3.5mm nut. WebJul 2, 2006 · Probably best to pick those up in your local electrical shop. If however the 3.5 tap does not work (hole to far gone)....then tap with the 4 and use M4 bolts. (use the tap carefully mind). Boring....but if the thread has gone on the adjustable lug and you can find a back box to match it....it is possible to change over the lugs. (again carefully)

The repair is sometimes as easy as a longer 6-32 to grab some good threads further back in. The next repair is just to grab a triple tap or a DTAP and tap it out to 8-32 and put in that next fatter sized screw.
